Elon, Sam,

The goal of OpenAI is to make the future good and to avoid an AGI dictatorship. You are concerned that DeepMind is on track to build an AGI dictatorship. So do we.

If they are right and we do nothing, the future could indeed be very bad. So it is very important that we start. The mission of OpenAI must be to make the technology open, but I worry that, despite the announcement, the openness aspect could be overlooked. We have a real chance of starting an arms race that we may not even win.

I'd suggest the following framing: 'OpenAI is a non-profit AI research company. Our goal is to advance digital intelligence in the way that is most likely to benefit humanity as a whole, unconstrained by a need to generate financial return.'
